I found the detail I could see with clothing, transparent fabric, stress points had amazing potential for the future display for clothing. A moving photos session you can see in AR, in your living room. Definitely a future Fashion Innovation!

FOCUS GROUP - FUTURE APPLICATIONS OF DIGITAL CLOTHING: AR & VR IN THE FUTURE OF FASHION

February 20th 2019 2:20 pm - Room 4

Mixed Realities, including AR and VR, are evolving at a rapid rate and there are a number of evolving niche market applications emerging including VR surgery simulators, immersive tools to teach and train technical workers, immersive experiences aimed at treating a variety of psychological conditions, and more.

AR/VR will be an important part of fashion marketing in 2019 by giving customers the ability to showcase what you wear and how you wear items in real time scenarios. The AR software market alone is expected to hit $35.22 Billion by 2022, and companies such as Sephora, Niki, Facebook have already followed suit by allocating increased funding to AR projects, whist technology companies like Gerber are purchasing smaller MR companies to enhance their digital offering in this way.

AR visualization will forever change the way we shop. It can help drive customer engagement and ultimately increase a company’s bottom line. But as demand increases, the need for people to work within this industry will multiply.

Join Roz McNulty, Digital Magician at the Fashion Innovation Centre and member of the VRARa, to discuss:

  • How will VR or AR solutions work best within practical restraints?

  • Which companies will create  the best change room experiences first?

  • What skills will we be need to 'stock' 3D clothing?

ModiFace - AR Make-up

Modi Face AR Make-up App bought by Loréal

To date, more than 100 million apps using ModiFace’s technology have been downloaded by consumers. In stores, it says its virtual makeup mirror technology has increased sales by 31 percent. That’s why brands are paying $200,000-to-$500,000 a year to integrate ModiFace’s AR capabilities into their own apps. According to chief executive Parham Aarabi, it shows the importance of personalisation in the future of beauty.

In March, Loréal, which has used ModiFace’s services since 2014, said it would acquire the technology company for an undisclosed sum. “The acquisition gives Loréal, who is racing to lead the tech revolution in beauty, a competitive edge over rivals, and puts pressure on the latter to find an alternative to ModiFace, which they used to partner with,” said Euromonitor’s Galenytska. “At the same time, it’s a definite sign that such type of technology will become more influential in reinventing how consumers shop.”

Loréal’s move comes as the world’s largest beauty companies are increasingly snapping up small start-ups to gain expertise in artificial intelligence, augmented reality and other technologies. Last year, Shiseido bought MatchCo and its ability to create custom foundation for different skin tones. “Looking ahead, brands will use consumers’ faces not only as canvases for their products, but also as a way to track consumer likes and dislikes and guide them through the shopping experience...that is both personal and gives consumers more control,” said Andrew McDougall, global beauty analyst at research firm Mintel.

NYC and 3D

NYC and 3D Clothing

Simon Collins, Founder, WeDesign.org and former Dean of the School of Fashion at Parsons

Last month I attended a three day seminar for ‘fashion professors’ on the CLO3D clothing software.

Also while in New York City I attended the Coresite and Alvanon ‘Trailblazers.’ Including a seminar on 'One Size Does Not Fit All: Inclusive Design & the Modern Consumer.' A 3 billion dollar opportunity. A great talk by Maura Horton of MagnaReady about 'adaptive clothing.' Another niche market of billions of dollars of opportunity.

On July 19 - 20th it was the PI Apparel conference held at the Union Club. Great to see some familiar faces from February’s conference. Excellent speakers and presenters. I attended seminars that addressed ‘smarter to market’ and fashion innovation using 3D and AR.

An inspiring time in NYC and in 3D clothing. The seminars clarify the economy, sizing and design possible in 3D clothing. I am going to take what I have learned and teach within the community. Also to work on my dream of 3D clothing archiving for the museum. The Fashion Innovation Centre

Computer-generated models' social media influence on the rise

An interview with Ryan Teng on CBS News. Ryan Teng is the vice president of CLO Virtual Fashion, the company behind the 3D software used to digitize the clothes on virtual models.

"Everyone has their own take of what they think their reality should look like. And I think 3D just kind of gives the extra step to increase your creativity for that reality," Teng said.

Launch of the Cube VR Space in 2017

A central resource for BC's Tech community the Cube was home to over 20 AR/VR/MR companies and hosted community events.

I am still so glad of the opportunity to be part of The Cube. An office space devoted to the assumption that VR would be the next frontier.

Located in Railtown, the Cube boasted a 6000 square foot floor plan that was designed to support and bolster the growing AR/VR/MR sector in BC

We had 360 filming, virtual home tours, 3D scanning, and even my dream of a Virtual Historical Clothing Museum.

We also had our private Digital Dojo group where we experimented in VR. With Tilt Brush, 3D scanning and trying to simulate our workspace in 3D.

An excellent time, some great co-workers and I was sad to move on.
